Yongsan Haebangchon, a small foreign country in Korea

Many people seek to have healing away from their repetitive daily lives. There are various ways to have healing: such as, watching movies or listening to music at the home, eating delicious food outside, going on a trip, etc. In my case, I like to look at the endless view at sunset.

Recently, I found a place that contained elements that would not blend in at once, such as sunset + panorama view + cafe + foreign country + healing. So I would like to introduce the place. It is Haebangchon in Yongsan.

Haebangchon is the name that refers to a neighborhood where North Koreans who defected to South Korea live together. There is an official district name, but that name is still widely used. Due to the characteristics of Haebangchon, it is a very quiet area where people live, so many people visit the cafe in this neighborhood.

There was a wooden fence towards the panorama view in Sowol-ro, Namsan. At sunset, the sun went down behind the high building, and at that time, when the sky turned rainbow-colored, then I heard the sound of smartphone camera shutters in various places. This beautiful place where I had to take pictures was already a famous photo spot that many foreigners visiting Korea visit, such as Hongdae and Myeong-dong.

I came down the road of Haebangchon, I could find Haebangchon Sinheung-ro. There were many restaurants here, and the quality of the food was very high. The restaurant was run by Koreans, but foreign students and immigrants often served a lot, so I felt like I was abroad.

Morococo Cafe, one of the famous restaurants in Sinheung-ro, was a restaurant serving Moroccan homemade food. The representative menus were Moroccan over rice and Tajin. The menu was composed of chicken, lamb, beef, and shrimp, so I could taste various meat flavors if I order various foods.

Pizza could not be left out as it was a crowded street for foreigners. Pizza restaurant “PizzaO,” which was located at the end of Sinheung-ro, served the most delicious and rich topping and cheese-cooked pizza among many pizza restaurants located in Sinheung-ro.

As it was a pizza restaurant on the foreign street, the pizza was very large and the amount of cheese was considerable, so I almost couldn’t even eat half the pizza. So I recommend you eat it with the Tabasco sauce that will be served next to it. The combination was perfect because it was moderately spicy and neutralized the greasy taste of cheese.

Today, I looked around Yongsan Haebangchon. There were many attractive places besides the places and restaurants introduced here. I hope you visit and have fun healing.
