On KBS 1TV, “National Singing Contest,” a Korean long-lived TV program that represents Sunday daytime for about 41 years from November 9, 1980, to the present and gives a glimpse of the singing skills of the entire nation. Song Hae, who has been the host of this program for more than 30 years, passed away in June. Sorrowing the death of the national MC, who led the era, I went to Jongno 3-ga, where Songhae-gil (Road name: Supyo-gil), where traces of the deceased remain everywhere.

When I heard someone’s voice from time to time in the room, I remember that I made clumsy evaluations. There are many old stores on the back street of Tapgol Park in Jongno 3-ga. For those with poor pockets, there are many places to fill their stomachs with cheap, delicious food, alcohol, and snacks. The reason why it was called Songhae-gil is that Song Hae, who was usually frugal, visited this place a lot.

Jongno is an indispensable place for me. When I was studying Japanese, I studied Japanese in Jongno, and Jongno was the place where I first got drunk and kept painful memories. Twenty years ago and now, a lot of things have changed, but I don’t think it’s going to change the part of giving memories to people who visit this place.
