“The moon is now hanging on a long hillside. Around the middle of the night, the sound of the breath of the beastly moon in the dead silence was heard as if I could hold it, and the beans and corn leaves were wetter blue on the moon. The hillside is all buckwheat field, so I can’t breathe in the moonlight as if the flowers that have begun to bloom were sprinkled with salt.” – From Lee Hyo Seok’s, “When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom”

When I was in middle and high school, I memorized his name hard, writer, Lee Hyo-seok. I think it was a long time afterward that I realized how beautiful his work, “When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom,” was.

Wow~ How so beautiful Korean sentences we use!

And I think it was after that much time that I missed the food of the restaurant “When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom” with the same name. The bland taste comes to my mind indifferently.

Located next to Gyeongbokgung, “When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom” changed its name while remodeling the building, and now it can be searched on the portal as “Dolbat Memilkkot (Stone Field Buckwheat Flower)”. Fortunately, the name “When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom” remains on the outer wall of the building, so it is nice to remember the past and visit again like me.

Dolbat Memilkkot (Past, When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom) – 31-1, Hyoja-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul – Business hours: Monday to Saturday. 12:00-19:00 / 14:00-17:00 Break time / 18:30 Last order (Closed every Friday)

This is a picture of the outside and inside of a small restaurant. Maybe because the break time was coming, I could see the increased empty seats in the restaurant. It was also introduced at the <Wednesday Food Talk>, so there were many visitors in addition to regulars, so please refer to it when you visit.
It was nice to see an old picture of “When Buckwheat Flower Bloom” hanging on the wall of the restaurant.
The jars were quietly at the entrance of the restaurant.

When I left the restaurant, Gyeongbokgung stood proudly. It was <Visiting Buckwheat Restaurants> that would be good to take a walk in Gyeongbokgung, visit the newly opened Cheongwadae (Blue House), and travel to nearby Seochon.

Gyeongbokgung Palace, which I saw after leaving the restaurant, was so beautiful. I could also see the proud Taegeukgi and Mugunghwa of Korea.

If you want to sympathize with the beauty of buckwheat and Lee Hyo-seok outside of Seoul, I recommend the Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival held in Bongpyeong.

It is the “Best Festival” selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, where various events are held every year, such as the Spring day Lee Hyo-seok, Hyo-seok Cultural Festival, and the Lee Hyo-seok Culture and Arts Village Art Festival.

Unfortunately, the 2022 Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival was canceled due to the prevention of the re-spreading of COVID-19 and heavy rain damage. I wish those affected by the heavy rain a speedy recovery.
