The United States has a unique form in which 50 states form a united state. Among them, I would like to introduce Minneapolis, Minnesota’s largest city, one of the states classified as the Midwest.

Minnesota, which became a member of the United States in 1858, is now home to more than 5 million people on an area slightly larger than the Korean Peninsula. The capital is Saint Paul, but most of the economic infrastructure is concentrated in Minneapolis. The two cities are so close that they are called Twin Cities.

The weather is very cold in winter because of the continental subarctic climate. Winter begins in October and ends in April or late in May. When summer begins, the land that has been frozen for eight months melts in a week, revealing green grass inside, which allows you to see with your eyes what nature’s vitality is.

Minnesota has so many lakes that it is called “the land of 10,000 lakes.”. There are more than 10,000 officially counted lakes. Especially in winter, the lake freezes and people are often seen digging ice to enjoy fishing or skiing. Even if you don’t go far, you can get a glimpse of the lake in Minnesota if you visit Lake of the Isles, a 10-minute drive from downtown Minneapolis, the largest city.

Sculpture Garden [Source: https://discoverthecities.com/minneapolis-sculpture-garden-guide/]

In the city of Minneapolis, there is a Sculpture Garden, in which there is a sculpture with cherries on a spoon that you might have seen at least once. It’s a must-see place when you visit the city like when you go to Chicago, you go to see “Chicago bean”. There are many sculptures in the park along with spoon sculptures, and like the park, it is perfect for people to come for a walk because it is quiet and not crowded. Beyond, you can see the view of downtown Minneapolis at a glance, making your eyes and feelings moderately enjoyable.

In 1878, there was a major explosion in Minneapolis that killed 18 people, the Great Mill Disaster. The building with the neon sign on the picture was a wheat factory where the accident occurred. The cause was fine dust from the production of wheat or sparks caused by friction caused by particles floating around. Moreover, the inside of the factory was so dry that even a small spark caused a large chain explosion. Currently, the Mill City Museum has been newly built next to the ruins of the factory, and the remains and objects commemorating the day are displayed, making it a good place to visit.

There is a famous river which is called Mississippi River in front of the Mil City Museum. Stone Arch Bridge, which connects downtown from the opposite part of the museum, is on the river. Walking on the bridge in the direction of the city at sunset and looking at the night view of the city, you can feel the true charm of Minneapolis.

If I was asked to pick the most popular sport in the United States, I would choose football for the Harbon column. The two pictures above are US Bank Stadium which is the home stadium of the Minnesota Vikings, a Minnesota-based football team. It is located right next to the city, so it is crowded with people on the day of the game. It would be good to visit on the day of the game at least once. I think it can be said that the viewing experience is the best among all events. Uniquely, there is a roof on the stadium, which is said to have been built for players who play hard on a snowy day and those who watch while greeting the snow.

Washington Avenue

Next to downtown Minneapolis is the University of Minnesota. There is nothing to see because it is a school, but the combination of light rail and street is quite worth seeing and the school grass is well created in summer, so I recommend you to go there once. One trip is enough.

Glam Doll Donuts

Minneapolis is very famous for its local donut shops. Each doughnut restaurant decorates the store with its own personality and sells doughnuts that fit the theme. It’s very rude to find a franchise donut brand in this area. As such, the doughnut pride of local doughnut restaurants is great. By the way, if you want to eat Krispy Kreme, which has become much more common these days, you can drive five hours to Chicago.

Minneapolis, the three largest cities in the U.S., is not as big as LA, New York City, Chicago, or the top of the list like infrastructure and prices, but is no less than that. If you’ve been to many of those cities and are looking for other places, I recommend this place.
